Melissa Johnson

PSYCHOLOGIST/ DIRECTOR

Melissa Johnson, is an experienced clinician and the director of Thriving Minds Psychology. As a practicing psychologist for over a decade she brings a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Melissa draws on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Mindfulness, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Neuroplasticity research. Melissa has time and time again helped clients to grow, develop, and learn to enjoy their life now and strive toward a fulfilling life

Melissa helps clients become aware of their belief systems, unhelpful cognitive strategies and behaviours while creating new ways of thinking and behaviour. This creates new neural pathways which facilitates long term change.

Melissa works with adults and busy professionals experiencing chronic stress and anxiety, burnout and struggling to establish the elusive work life harmony. Her other special interest area is working with families in the perinatal period who are trying to conceive, progressing through pregnancy and adjusting to  a new born baby.

She is passionate about using her skills and experience to educate and inspire and create long term change both in therapy and as a writer and keynote speaker.

Nikki Horsford

Nikki is an experienced clinician and has a particular interest in treating anxiety, depression, low self esteem, lack of self worth and  difficulties in relationship dynamics. 

She has a warm and engaging interactive style and prides herself on establishing excellent rapport with her clients. Nikki utilises Schema Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and helps her clients understand the origins of behaviour and emotions and break free from recurring unhelpful life patterns.

Ryan Dixon

REGISTERED PSYCHOLOGIST

With 13+ years expereince, Ryan is a highly skilled and empathetic General Psychologist with extensive experience, ready to provide unwavering support to both individuals and couples. His experience covers a wide range of mental health issues, including depression, anxiety, stress management, and relationship challenges. With a background in both psychology and human resource management, Ryan possesses a unique skill set, ensuring he can tailor his approach to meet the specific needs of his clients effectively.

Utilising evidence-based therapeutic strategies such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Ryan is committed to the delivery of quality intervention and support. His previous uniformed service in the ADF gives him valuable insight into the experiences of veterans, enabling him to provide specialised support.

Furthermore, his commitment to continuous professional growth and his focus on nurturing healthy relationships define his approach as one of unwavering support and empathy in the realm of psychological and counselling services.

Lauren Dearlove

Registered Psychologist

Lauren is warm and compassionate in her approach and works collaboratively with her clients to create a space that allows them to feel safe and supported whilst they explore what it is that led them to therapy.

Lauren’s clinical experience extends across a range of presenting conditions including Anxiety and Depression across the lifespan, PTSD, Relationship and Self Esteem issues, Stress, Burnout and Somatic Symptoms. She has experience working with youth and families across a range of private, government and non government settings and currently sees clients 13 years +.

Lauren has a special interest in supporting men, women and children who have experienced trauma, including sexual abuse, sexual assault and domestic violence. Lauren is a trauma informed therapist and has experience in crisis management as well as long-term intervention and support. She works in a holistic and inclusive way to help individuals understand their experience, nurture and empower them to grow,
change and flourish into the most authentic and true selves they can be.

Lauren works from a client-centered perspective and uses a range of evidence- based interventions such as EMDR, Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Mind Body therapies and mindfulness-based cognitive approaches. Lauren has intentionally developed her skill set in a range of different interventions in order to tailor each person’s treatment to their specific presentation,
personality and needs.

Arzaan Coetzee

Clinical Psychologist

Arzaan is a clinical psychologist, with experience working in psychiatric hospitals, primary health care, community health care and private practice. She has also trained and gained experience in other countries (South African and New Zealand) working with individuals and families across the life span.

Arzaan’s style in the therapy room is calm, collaborative, and compassionate, supporting clients to feel accepted and safe. She has a deep respect for the individual psyche and our capacity for growth in the midst of difficulty.

Arzaan is adaptable and flexible to meet her clients’ therapeutic needs. Utilising evidence- based theories such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), Schema Therapy, neuroscience and predominantly working form a humanistic psychology approach.

Arzaan guides clients on a journey of discovering the importance of language, emotions, and how they seek meaning in their lives. This is achieved through building a strong authentic belief system, with openness, acceptance, and committed behaviour change. Ultimately, this leads to a life lived well with learned skills that can be flexibly used in any domain or phase of your life.

Josephine Keijzer

Mental Health Accrediated Social Worker

Josephine has worked in the field of integrative health for many years and is passionate about the work she does with people of all ages who are experiencing challenges and want to expand their lives .

Jospehine is an Accredited Mental Health Social Worker, holds a Masters degree in Social Work and a Bachelors degree in Social Science and she has attained a Diploma in Modern psychology and utilises therapeutic interventions tailored to the needs of each client.

Jospehine has worked both locally and internationally and has a special interest in trauma, addictions, anxiety and depression. Her training as a yoga teacher and mindfulness facilitator, allows her to support clients in their learning about and practicing skills between sessions that support long term health and self care.

From the viewpoint that all things are in a state of change, Jospehine believes that given the right environments, challenges can be overcome and transformation can happen.

While all sessions are different depending on the needs of the individuals, Jospehine aims to teach accessible and easy-to-remember techniques to reduce anxiety and stress and to build on self reliance and confidence. Clients are given strategies and resources to support lasting change.

Laura Millican

Drawing on evidence-based therapies and placing significant importance on her therapeutic alliance and collaboration with her clients, Laura works from an empathetic, warm and passionate lens. Her experience volunteering with vulnerable children for non-for-profit organisations and working in the Allied Health sector has led to pursuing her dream career as a Psychologist to address a broad range of mental health concerns in the community. Laura aims to understand an individuals concerns and needs from a whole body perspective, encouraging both mental and physical well-being. With a special interest in child and adolescent mental health, Laura aims to help young people navigate their needs and concerns to optimise growth, well-being and self-confidence.

Laura is a registered Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). She currently sees clients across the lifespan, from children aged 5+ years through to adulthood.”

Angela Ritossa

Angela believes that every individual has the potential to flourish – sometimes they just need a little guidance along the way.

Angela delivers a warm and welcoming environment to her sessions and is interested in working with clients across the lifespan using evidence-based practice based on the individual. She has a genuine concern for the mental health and wellbeing of her clients.

Angela has experience within the Disability and Mental Health Sector under the NDIS, as a case manager helping individuals working through their positive behaviour support plans, psychosocial life skills, and improving their quality of life. Angela also has experience with older adult mental health working in close collaboration with their families and care workers to provide interventions for dementia, anger
management and adjustment issues.

Angela is a registered Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS). She currently sees clients across the lifespan, from children aged 5+ years through to older adults.

Brooke Miller

Brooke offers her clients a warm, inviting, and secure environment in which to collaborate. She explores how psychological, physiological, and social aspects interact and effect an individual’s health and well-being. She is enthusiastic about mental health and practises holistic, individually customised therapy.

With a particular focus on working with clients during their early years, Brooke has 10 years’ experience working with children and supporting families with developmental and behavioural concerns, while understanding the unique challenges and developmental
milestones that individuals in this stage of life face.

Brooke is a registered Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and an Associate Member of the Australian Psychological Society (APS).

Mark Hutchens

Mark has a wealth of training and life experience to help clients evolve out of states of stress, anxiety, trauma, depression, mood and related conditions of sense of worth and addictive or unwanted behaviours. He has worked privately and in a residential mental health retreat. 

Before becoming a psychologist, Mark worked in the software industry, building a software start-up in the USA, where he lived for many years. The stressors in this process hatched his interest in mental health, leaving him well-versed in the challenges and stressors of adult life and the business world. 

Mark is interested in helping people build awareness and insight into the nature of their problems and, as a result, understand and develop the skills and capacities to evolve out of their life-inhibiting challenges.

Katrina Pitman

Provisional Psychologist (Telehealth)

Across the lifespan – Adult and Senior Adult Focus

Qualifications: BSci(psych), BSocSc(Psych)(Hons), MProfPsych

Prior to gaining her qualifications as a Provisional Psychologist, Katrina worked in hospital settings as a sleep study technician which has led to a passion for helping people by gaining an understanding of their concerns across both the mind and the body. Additionally, Katrina is interested in working with people of all ages and walks of life including those within the LGBTQIA+ community.

Katrina endeavours to bring warmth and understanding to her practice by creating a safe place for people to share their concerns and difficulties. Katrina uses evidence-based therapies which are considered based on the individual concerns of the client, to collaboratively help explore difficult thoughts and emotions, identify client strengths and to create helpful strategies to assist in improving mental health and wellbeing.

Katrina is a registered Provisional Psychologist with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and member of the Australian Psychological Services (APS) and the Australian Association of Psychologists Inc (AAPI).
